A general accounting system doesn’t know what a night is.
An honest comparison isn’t about who has more features. It’s about whether the system understands hotels. A general accounting system does what it does very well: invoicing, keeping a ledger, producing a trial balance. What it can’t do is know that revenue from a stay is earned night by night, that a reservation deposit is a liability until the guest arrives, or that your accounting day starts at seven in the morning.
Containn vs. general accounting software
Rows in bold are the ones no general accounting system has, because they aren’t accounting features: they’re hotel know-how turned into journal entries.

Comparison based on each product’s public information as of October 4, 2026, from its official website and help center. QuickBooks Online stopped being sold in Mexico on April 30, 2023; we compare its international edition. Features change; if you find something out of date, write to us and we’ll correct it.
A dash in a cell means we couldn’t find the feature documented, not that the product doesn’t have it.
When not to choose Containn
- If you don’t run a lodging property. Containn grows out of hotel operations; without them, you’d be using half the product.
- If you need the system to calculate and stamp your payroll. Today we account for it; we don’t calculate it.
- If you need group consolidation with intercompany eliminations this month. It’s in development, not in production.
We say it here so you don’t find out during implementation. It’s the same standard the documentation is written to.
Start with yesterday.
If your hotel already signs off on its night audit, Containn can post yesterday today. The chart of accounts is set up in one step, the transaction code mapping is done once, and from then on every signed-off day becomes a journal entry.
