What it is
In Containn a póliza (journal entry) is never edited or deleted. Canceling it voids it: it stays in the Pólizas list with the status Cancelada (canceled), with its number and lines, but it no longer counts in the trial balance, the financial statements, the account ledger or the files for the SAT (Mexico's tax authority). An auditor has to be able to see that it existed. Its number is never reused either.
What happens today with each póliza
| Póliza | How it is corrected |
|---|---|
| Daily póliza | It is not canceled: it came from a signed day, and a signed day is never recalculated. The error is fixed with a manual adjustment póliza. |
| Year-end closing póliza | It is canceled automatically when you reopen the fiscal year in Cierre de mes (reopening). |
| Manual póliza | It is corrected with a reversing póliza (below). |
| Pólizas from supplier invoices, payments, payroll, depreciation or banking | Not canceled from the list today. Do not reverse them by hand: the document would still say something else (an invoice would still show as payable). Contact support. |
The Pólizas list does not have a button to cancel a manual póliza yet. A reversing póliza leaves the balances exactly as a cancellation would, with an equally clear trail.
Step by step: the reversing póliza
- In Pólizas, open the wrong póliza and note its lines.
- Click Capturar póliza (capture a póliza) and enter the same lines with debit and credit swapped.
- In the description, say which póliza it reverses and why. For example: Reversal of September póliza #14 · wrong account.
- Save the reversal and, if needed, capture the correct póliza.
The original and its reversal stay visible side by side. That is the trail an auditor expects (why a póliza is never edited).
What can go wrong
- The póliza's month is already closed. The reversal cannot be dated in that month. Reopen the month with the special permission, or date the reversal in the open month, as your accountant decides.
- Reversing a daily póliza does not fix the sheet. The signed sheet still says what was signed; the correction lives in the books with its own date (a signed day is never recalculated).
